Testing the Water

Today I ran the Summit Athletic Buckeye Half Marathon to test the waters for the Akron Marathon .... well

1:40 and some change was the final outcome of today's race in the valley. Plan was to go sub 1:30. Lined up with the 1:30 pace group at the start. All was good for the first few miles, sat comfortably in a pack (of about 10) running 6:55 miles. After mile 2 I was gapped a slight bit and it went down hill after that. 7:10, 7:30, 7:45 the pace went. Even when I tried to accelerate I had nothing. I tried to pick it back up to 7:30 pace and it felt like a interval.

To make a long and borring story short. I cruised the second lap even though I just wanted to call it a day and broke the top 100. Not the day I wanted but still a good day of training.

With that said this next week and half should be a good one. Should be a 50 to 55 mile week with 2 races.

Sunday: Race Half Marathon
Monday: 4 mile recovery run
Tuesday: 5 trails
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 5 trails
Friday: 5 Road
Saturday: Leave No Trace Half Marathon plus an additional 8 post race.

Also on Monday I am going to travel to my old home town for a 10k. Should be exciting and hopefully the racing will go a little faster. After that two weekends till the Akron Marathon.
