Let it snow, let it snow

Well if you live in Northeast Ohio chances are you have close to a foot of snow on the ground and everyone is complaining about it except for those at Boston Mills and Brandywine Ski Resorts. Well news flash people; it is winter and it will be here for a while.

Last night I packed up the gear bag and included the snow shoes just in-case it was a little to deep out. Luckily Emma dog did not get away with my socks, she did put in a valiant effort though. At lunch I headed down to Lock 29 to do a little run in the balmy 21 degree weather. After changing I decided to head out on the roads but after about a 1/2 mile decided the berm just wasn't wide enough and hopped onto the Buckeye Trail at Pine Lane.

Luckily the recent rage of trail running in Ohio had the 10" to 12" of snow pretty packed down and only 4 or so inches of powder sat on the top. This was to be a pretty basic loop, up the road, hop on the trail, down the hill, cross the stream, up the hill, down the bridal trail, back to the Buckeye, down old "AP", through the lumber yard and back to the car .... simple, right ?

A little slick in spots, but for the most part all was fine and dandy until I fell through the ice at the stream crossing. It was snow covered and I was trying to find a stone to step on under the snow .... I failed! This stream is not very big, a foot at the deepest near the crossing and I found the deepest spot. Soaked mid-way up the calf.

Well fortunately I was wearing a pair of New Balance Gore Tex shoes and they did a great job of keeping the water in (water drained in the top pretty well :) for the rest of the run. Right foot was soaked and frozen and the left foot was not quite as bad

55 minutes on the trail and in the end what a great run. Happy New Year everyone! Train Safe!
