The Quail hollow trail is maintained by Camba and is located inside Quail Hollow State Park just outside of Hartville Ohio (About 20 minutes or so from Akron or Canton.
The trailhead has primitive restrooms (no running water) and limited parking for about 10 to 12 vehicles, a few picnic tables and nearby hiking trails for the family.
The 4-mile 100% ridable trail has good flow and a few technical obstacles to challenge the beginner and intermediate rider with minimal roots and rocks. The trail is 97% in the woods. There is the occasional log to rollover, as well as rocks built into the trail to aide you when the trail conditions are a little muddy. For the most part, the first part of the trail is pretty smooth and quick with switchbacks and small climbs and descents.
The trail then opens up to a small meadow, which is usually soft or muddy even if the rest of the trail is bone dry. If you watch yourself you can make it through this area staying pretty clean even when it is wet.
What I like to refer to as the “third” part of the trail enters back into the woods. The trail then enters into a small pine forest with a few stream crossing, which have bridge options. After the second stream crossing you enter the most technical part of the course with some smaller trees that make the trail a little tight, but not to bad. Also thrown in are some quick ups and downs until you get back to the final little climb and decent back to trailhead.
The trail is about 4 miles long and is a great trail for beginner and intermediate riders. Depending on weather the trail can be muddy at times but when frozen or dry is 100% ridable.
Near by in Hartville are lots of food places including pizza, burger and such. Hartville is a “dry town” so no post ride recovery drinks and story sharing. closet bike shops would be Ernie's in North Canton or Eddy's in Stow.
