WASATCH CREST WP
Ever ride in Grandma’s Cadillac? The feel of comfort, like you own the road, can’t feel the pot holes and don’t even have to slow down for the railroad tracks … this is what I thought about the Wasatch Crest WP from Keen.
When I first picked up the Wasatch Crest WP, right off the bat I noticed it’s “over built” style. It was a little heavy and little stiff. This brings me to the Cadillac reference. As with the caddy, speed bumps, railroad tracks, cruising through puddles, etc. You can just hit them and you barely feel a thing. Out in the trail with the Wasatch Crest WP you have this feeling of being able to cruise over tree roots, small rocks, mud puddles, streambeds, etc.
Doing a 5k on the road, this is not the shoe for you. Doing a 50k off road, 1 or 2 hour trail run, or hiking the Appalachian trail I would not hesitate to wear the Wasatch Crest WP for any of these. During our test period the Wasatch Crest WP met and exceeded all of our expectations, granted it was little heavy, but Keen has this bad boy built for the long haul and comfort, just like a caddy.
Build:
The Wasatch Crest WP is built with a waterproof, breathable upper that kept our feet dry 99% of the time, unless we went over the top of the shoe. The great foot support comes from the KEEN S3 heel support structure, 3/4-length stability plate, and assymmetrical eyestay, which keeps the Wasatch Crest WP secured to your feet.
Fit:
Now this is different for everyone, but our Wasatch Crest WP fit up great. The toe box was a tad roomy when wearing thin socks, but with a pair or heavier cushioned socks the extra room was absorbed. The heel fit nice and snug thanks to the assymmetrical eyestay and left our heels blister free.
