Mizuno Breath Thermo Pant and Breath Thermo ½ Zip top.
Matched pair is the best way to describe the new Mizuno Breath Thermo Pant and ½ Zip Top. Function, comfort and style come with this matched pair (actually they are available separately).
Both the Top and Pant of this matching set are manufactured from Mizuno’s patented Thermo Material which is a 93% Polyester / 7% Polyacrylate moisture wicking blend that retains heat.
Now that we have all the “technical” Mumbo Jumbo out of the way, let’s talk about performance. Mizuno uses several different technologies on the Breath Thermo line, utilizing different material thicknesses, on the back, top and in the armpit areas. The pants also run this feature on the backside of the knee area. I find this very beneficial, put the protection where it is needed and keep me from over heating, Mizuno nailed this concept through the following two technologies.
- THERMO: Thermal dynamic fabric technology that maintains core body temperature, alleviating temperature loss for increased performance.
- Mizuno Plus™ Action: Mizuno Performance Layer Universal System™ for apparel provides optimal performance and protection through exclusive Mizuno technical fabrications and designs.
Fit: Fit of the Mizuno Breath Thermal was good. Out on the road and on the trails the mobility was great thanks to the “Mizuno Dynamic Function Cut” and “Action”. Any areas of high stress or need for movement is paired up with a material that will handle this a little better, such as the knees. The top that was tested was a large, and it ran pretty true to size. The collar came up around the neck to keep out the cold, but not enough to make you feel like your wearing a shirt and tie. The bottoms however seemed to run just a tad short in length, but I am coming in at 6’2” so that could make a difference.
- Action: Design Technology that coordinates fabric characteristics with specific sport patterns, eliminating stress and allowing for unrestricted motion for better performance.
- D.F. Cut™: Dynamic Function Cut™ is Mizuno's design technology that coordinates fabric characteristics with specific sports patterns, eliminating stress and allowing unrestricted motion for better performance.
Winter Darkness: With Winter time in full swing here, and most of the U.S., we are condemned to running early in the morning (well if you are really motivated) or like myself you head out at 8:00 at night because you have procrastinated. Either way the important thing is safety, and Mizuno provides this. Up top you have two reflective spots in the front, and 2 in the rear along with a reflective logo on the pant.
Also with Winter comes the cold. I was very comfy in the Breath Thermo kit in a range from 30 degrees to about 45 degrees. On the 45-degree days I went with the pant and the top with a thin short sleeve base layer underneath. This allowed me to work up a nice little sweat. On the colder days when the temps dropped into the 30's I mixed it up a little. A few times I tried out some long sleeve base layers alone, and others times I wore a vest on top. As far as going into the 20’s or colder, I would look into the some of Mizuno’s outerwear, and all of this can be found at your local retailer or Mizuno.com.
