The Canalway Classic along the restored Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail is one of northeast Ohio's FASTEST 5K Run. It is a certified, point-to-point 5K run (and walk) and is mostly down hill, flat, and shady. It is the site of many 5K Personal Records. Sponsored by Nickles Bakery, the proceeds go to support the development of the historic Towpath Trail.

The Canalway Classic is part of the Ohio Challenge Series for the 11th straight year and this one of eight "Elite Division" Races. The Elite Division is designed for the serious competitive runner. Runners entered in the Challenge Series' Elite Division will be scored on their 5 best race finishes of 8 events. End-of-the-year cash awards for elite runners will be as follow: 1st place men & women $1500, 2nd Place $1000, 3rd Place $500, 4th Place 250, 5th Place $125, Masters $500, & Grand Masters $500. Age groups will be 29 & under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over. First will be $125. Total prize money for the Elite Division is $10,250.
