Sporting a breathable mesh/webbing, uppers and protective toe bumpers, the Chaco Outcross Evo 1 shoe for men and women performs equally well in the water and on dry land. Light runs, trekking, boating, the beach or cruising around town the Outcross Evo 1 gets the job done, and pretty darn well.
Chaco’s versatile and protective Outcross Evo 1 features a great look, featuring an athletic/ running shoe feel with with open upper webbing that brings the average weight down to 1 lb. 7 oz. ounces. Toes are enclosed and your foot is held in place via single point closure.
Upper
On hot days while relaxing after a hard workout, traveling, cruising around town or even a day out on the boat you will appreciate the breath-ability and openness that is offered. The upper of the Outcross Evo 1 is a breathable, layered mesh and synthetic webbing with open construction for ventilation and fits similar to a running shoe. The no-stretch synthetic webbing is secured slightly to your foot with single-pull lace closure. Aegis Microbe Shield odor control let’s you wear these shoes with confidence that you won’t stink up the car. The shoe is designed to be worn without socks (just incase you didn’t pick up on that already) and designed not to cause irritation with seams or excess materials. I do suggest breaking them in on a few short trips before heading out for 4 or 5 miles.
Footbed
All styles of the Outcross Evo’s use Chaco’s LUVSEAT™ footbed that’s certified by the American Podiatric Medical Association. With the assistance of a certified pedorthist, Chaco’s designed the contours of the footbed to control pronation and maximize performance. The LUVSEAT™ footbed ensures a supported, comfortable stride in any activity. This specially designed footbed with a secure fit is what really makes this shoe.
To absorb shock, the foot naturally pronates (flexes and rolls). Overpronation occurs when the foot rolls too far inward, resulting in stress on the muscles and tendons of the foot. Nearly 80% of the population overpronates, and this stress can radiate through the body causing a series of injuries (data from Chacos.com).

Sole
The Outcross Evo is made from a non-marking , 25% recycled rubber and features a 3mm deep lug that will get you through most obstacles on land and water. Protective rubber toe caps and ‘heel riser’ overlays integrated into the sole help keep the foot protected from rocks and roots.
Overall
Overall the Outcross Evo 1 from Chaco is a great shoe for outdoor use in wet conditions and warm weather. The mesh webbing gives it the feel of a running shoe but with ventilation of a sandal. We put our test pair through the ringer and at the end of the day we enjoyed wearing them. If they come home dirty, grab a hose and wash them down. They’ll be dry by morning.
