If you know me very well, you also know I have a love affair with Strava. It is very seldom that I’m on a workout and I don’t burn a few matches chasing a handful of segments and seeing what I can do. This month instead of chasing a segment or two, I am going to go with the Rapha Festive 500 Challenge: Eight days, 500km of riding from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve. For those of you that don’t have an iPhone handy, that is around 46.5 miles per day, IN DECEMBER! Now that I think of it, maybe it’s not the best idea living in Ohio.
Bite the Bullet and Start Indoor Training
The Rapha Festive 500 is over January 1st, which means temps in the teens are on the way. So to combat this issue, I decided to give the Wahoo KICKR Core a try for a few weeks and we’ll see how it goes. Indoor riding pretty much sucks but if you want to be in shape come spring then it has to be done. REI has a generous return policy if it does not work out. If I am not more motivated to ride it versus my 8 year old Cycle-Ops bike then it is going back. Riding the trainer or doing virtual races does not count towards the Rapha Festive 500 Challenge.
On a side note I’ve started with work with a few brands and will be riding their products in 2020 and am pretty excited about that. More details to come after the beginning of the year and things slow down a tad.
